my mum thinks I’m a mature student just because I skipped 1 year of uni.

What adds weight to this opinion is that I still have trouble UNDERSTANDING TEXTS. UNDERSTANDING. That’s a thing first year or high school students do, not me.

idk feels scary because I’ve been to bromley and it’s a place that I can put an identity on and it’s not NYC’s Greenwich Village (which I haven’t been to) or a time that is years in the past.

Maybe it’s the graphic bloody picture that does it. It’s middle aged white males who’ve been attacked, and it reminds me of times when people tell me not to go out late because I’m a young short yellow female. *Everyone* is equally susceptible to crime, not just people who look like me. Saying that I’m a girl or small is not a convincing enough reason to tell me not to go out at night alone. Although my mum would say that this is why I should be extra careful, because even people who are supposedly more able to defend themselves get hurt.

A cautious reaction to this is not to go out “too late”, but that is dumb because I don’t like my mobility curbed, and when I first moved my mum would tell me not to be out after dark, even when it got dark at 4pm. I don’t know what an appropriate reaction is.

The detached part of me is thinking that maybe they got hurt *because* they were middle aged white males, and they weren’t following the “standards” of behavior that middle aged white males are supposed to follow. I’m exempt from following these standards because I’m Other and I clearly don’t belong; people don’t care if I break these rules. Maybe they were picked on because they looked like a good fight; you’d look like a pansy if you picked on someone already vulnerable. But of course that negates the harassment that happens to females.

One could argue that this is unfair to the other hate crimes which don’t get reported in the news. It only got attention because it was a hate crime against gay people, and one of the people who got attacked is the editor of a queer activism magazine, and he has the connections/ influence to get his story out, and the mindfulness(?) to take a picture of himself while he was still bloody. If you don’t have connections, you’re not visibly gay and you don’t take a picture of the damage, then whoops your story isn’t important.

Searching google news with “gay bromley”, I get 8 results with 2 relating to this story, but using the keywords “assault bromley” I get 420 results, and the first 5 results are of 5 different incidents that were reported in the last month, between 22 Apr and 13 May. Does this mean that people are just more prone to violent attacks in Bromley? tbh it makes me less worried because then the gay hate crime attack is not atypical of the area.

I guess it shows that the only reasons why I’m afraid is, firstly, that I’ve heard of this incident. I don’t keep up with news in Bromley so I don’t know about other incidents occurring. Secondly, I’ve only heard of this incident because it is a gay hate crime, reported on activist news sites, and someone I follow tweeted a link to the article. Thirdly, this story comes attached with a picture of a bloody person, pun unintended. Lastly, the article mentions “south london” which covers quite a few boroughs and includes the one I used to live in. SO now I’m not worried on a personal level, but I think I should be engaged on a political level… but I can’t be bothered, since this person looks like he has enough clout on his own. I mean after reading this news story I’ve learnt that hate crimes happen in the today and now, they’re not restricted to verbal abuse, queer people in london (as opposed to the seemingly more conservative southern ‘merica) are still vulnerable to assault. But I don’t really care about this particular person who’s been injured.

it’s 5.08am and I’ve signed up for Climate Literacy: Navigating Climate Change Conversations, Sustainability of Food Systems: A Global Life Cycle Perspective, and Calculus: Single Variable. I’ve also forgotten how to do integration and why there’s a +c at the end and I don’t know ln/log graphs without a graphic calculator but yolo, you know? GOOD LUCK ME

Spoilers in the first scene, so everything’s under the cut.

Don overhearing Sylvia & husband’s argument. AWKWARD.

Merger merger this is exciting. I like the sweet peggy/ joan moment. Reminds me of the working relationship they used to have.

LOL musical chairs. Pete’s like… peter pettigrew. Always last, always trying to catch up. Using authority he doesn’t really have. It’s going to be so interesting, though, SCDP and CGC, rival companies now merged into one.

haha the secretary taking the minutes for this meeting is so stupid it’s funny. Between both agencies, they have so many accounts though!

Gosh the WRITING. so good. Don’s phone rings and peggy goes to don, “do you want me to get that?” all sassy. Because peggy used to be don’s secretary.

Did you see Don’s eyebags and wrinkles in the first scene? He’s getting on in years. This asshole is still scheduling lunchtime sex sessions at hotels with someone else’s wife. Who he KNOWS is going through a rough patch with her husband. And there’s so much change to adjust to at the office, with the merger. Heaven hope I never have to work under someone like this.

Ted’s office is directly across from Don’s? Talk about setting up a foil.

Don/Sylvia is probably some sub/dom thing. Oh well.
